Towards Low Cost Deployments for BI solutions         09/26/2003
Actuate has gone a long way in trying to provide a single Information Application platform that organizations can trust to cost-effectively empower all users across the enterprise with multiple applications that provide scalable reports, spreadsheets and dashboards. This was corroborated by a benchmark test conducted by
Ventana Research, which named Actuate as the lowest TCO provider of BI Dashboards,
Pre-defined Reports and Spreadsheets.

The test reaffirmed Actaute's commitment to low cost deployment and enables corporations that are searching for suitable BI solutions to rationalize their decisions based on the ability to objectively assess actual costs for an existing deployment or more accurately plan for a proposed project. Actuate has paved the way for IT departments to optimize total IT project costs, compare alternative project approaches and make informed cost trade-offs. Benchmarks such as this has strengthened the belief that Actuate 7 is the most cost effective platform to reach users both inside and outside the firewall. 

Low TCO's for large user population is absolutely necessary for companies using a single integrated BI platform to deploy multiple Information Applications across their entire enterprise with each Information Application supporting a subset of users and it is found that Actuate TCO stays low for user populations well in excess of 10,000.

Ventana’s study evaluated solutions by measuring TCO using a number of scenarios with total user population of 1,000 and 10,000, which represented 100 and 1,000 simultaneous requests. Besides Actuate solutions from Information Builders (IBI), Actuate, Cognos, Informatica and MicroStrategy were involved in the study.

These conclusions were published in the Ventana Research Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Benchmark Study, the first study to examine the cost of ownership for a market-representative sampling of multiple Business Intelligence software solutions.
